  1. If expiry date was stamped on the day of arrival - most folks would not be able to live well for even a single day

  2. Pv: I heard this dialogue ina tamil film too: pora thedhi therijutta irukkara naal naragam ayidum or something.
Actually I dont think so. Our ancestors were very aware of their mortality because they did not have so much control over diseases and diagnoses. And they believed in accumulating as much good karma during whatever short span of life they had.
I believe that with advances in medical and health facilities we have somehow come to believe that death is something far away and that is why we dont utilise our time here very effectively.
I have heard a lot of people list down many good deeds when asked what they would do if they knew they had only a day/ week/ month to live. why not live all our life that way? after all we have only one life time to live in any case?

  3. "Thought provoking post! You are so right. Why can't we be good always to everyone around? Just imagine how the World would be if everyone is good and affectionate to each other and if everything happening around is only good!!!! May be we will not be able to appreciate it much... and would get bored of it..but still...it would be nice!
But at the end of all these thoughts and some more, I always finish off saying " It is all MAYA" "

  4. I think, to accept death calmly and live one's life satisfactorily knowing when one might die requires a "thuravi" like mindset. Difficult for common people. I agree with PV that if one gets to know when he/she is going to die, living life normally would become impossible.
While on the topic, have you seen Dasvidaniya? (It is a remake of some foreign lang movie) It is a good watch.

  6. ella blogum padichu comment pota cant postnu sollidutu.

Whatever philosophy you may follow, when Death actually happens it will have an impact and we are bound to feel whatever your friend felt. The vacuum that the person leaves will take sometime getting used to for the near and dear ones. There is a saying that even the most detached person wants to live when death faces him. Dont really know how far this is true. And so asking someone to talk about it all the time may not be such a pleasant experience, Which is why people try to live as normal as they can even after knowing the deadline. The reason we cry after one's death is because we miss what they were to us. It is more a selfish thing. I realised this when amma passed away and I used to break down so much. It took me time to realise that I was missing her more for me. I got over the grief when I made myself realise that death was the best way out for her condition and I had to put her needs first.
All said and done we are an emotional lot and you cant blame people for not wanting to linger on unpleasant things.

  7. Lalsan; Aargee had a similar problem which got sorted out by itself.
Meantime you can mail me the comments. I can post them.

I am not saying that you have to talk about death all the time. I am saying that we need to take a less escapist approach to it and talk about it as a natural occurrence that all of us will face.
I understand what you mean about crying for ourselves rather than thinking about the dead person's relief. I understood the same only after amma's death.
